A Fresh Look at Cruising
If you’re new to cruising and feeling unsure, let me start by saying… I was exactly the same.
I recently had the opportunity to visit Ambition for the day, exploring the ship, facilities and accommodation, and even without sailing, the visit alone completely changed my view of cruising.
First Impressions
With space for around 1,200 guests when full, Ambition felt welcoming rather than overwhelming. Walking around the ship, it was easy to imagine how relaxed life onboard would be, not crowded, not chaotic, just comfortable.
The general customer base is 50+, but there is a good mix, and it’s clear Ambassador also appeals to younger cruisers, especially those new to cruising or looking for value.
Cabins
A Real Surprise
One of the biggest highlights of my visit was seeing the cabins. They were far more spacious than I expected, well designed and comfortable, definitely one of the things that helped change my perception of cruising.
Food & Dining
Although I didn’t dine onboard as a guest, I was able to view the dining venues and talk through the options available. The focus on quality food and relaxed dining really stood out. On some Ambassador ships there is also a virtual queue system for meals, helping guests avoid long waits.
Drinks & Value
Ambassador positions itself as an affordable, quality cruise line, and this really shows. Their drinks packages include premium drinks, offering excellent value and making budgeting much simpler.
Entertainment & Facilities
Ambassador has won awards including Best Entertainment, and even during a day visit, it was clear how much emphasis is placed on onboard shows and activities.
Other useful facilities include:
• WiFi from around £10 per day
• Dialysis available onboard, making cruising more accessible
• Casinos on some ships, not all, so it is worth checking if this is important to you
About the Ship
Ambition is 26 years old, but she has been revamped within the last 4 years and feels modern, clean and well looked after.
💡 Top tip: From what I saw, Deck 10 is considered one of the best decks onboard.
Why Ambassador?
Ambassador is Hays Travel’s top selling cruise line, and after visiting Ambition, it’s easy to see why. They offer a welcoming environment, excellent value, and ships that feel ideal for those new to cruising.
There are several Ambassador ships to choose from, each offering a range of routes and itineraries, well worth exploring.
Final Thoughts
Even though this was just a day visit and not a full cruise, seeing Ambition in person genuinely changed my opinion of cruising. If you’re unsure or think cruising “isn’t for you”, I’d say this is a fantastic place to start.
